D E Floors Ltd is committed to protecting the environment, minimising our environmental impact, and actively working towards achieving ISO 14001 accreditation. We recognise our responsibility to manage the environmental effects of our activities, ensuring long-term sustainability and full compliance with all applicable legal and regulatory requirements. This policy applies to all operations conducted at our premises and across every client site we operate on.
We are dedicated to continuous improvement in our environmental performance and strive to reduce our footprint as a core element of our business strategy. We foster environmental responsibility across our team, sub-contractors, suppliers, and key stakeholders, encouraging best practices at every level.
Our Key Environmental Commitments
1. Compliance and Risk Management
- We comply with—and strive to exceed—all environmental legislation, codes of practice, and regulatory requirements relevant to commercial and domestic flooring.
- We regularly assess the environmental risks associated with our installation, uplift, and site activities to proactively prevent pollution and manage potential environmental hazards.
2. Environmental Objectives & ISO 14001 Progression
- We set measurable targets to continually improve our environmental performance as we develop our internal framework in alignment with ISO 14001 standards.
- We monitor and review these targets regularly to ensure our management processes remain effective, relevant, and transparent.
3. Supply Chain & Impact Assessment
- We evaluate the environmental impact of our operations and prioritize working with suppliers and manufacturers who demonstrate strong environmental credentials.
- We prioritize low-impact, sustainably produced flooring products, eco-friendly subfloor preparation compounds, and efficient logistics.
4. Sustainable Resource & Waste Management
- We promote a circular approach by actively reducing waste generation and prioritizing recycling and material reuse wherever possible.
- Uplifted flooring, vinyl offcuts, carpet, and packaging materials are separated and processed via responsible waste streams to minimize general waste output.
5. Staff Training & Awareness
- We ensure all employees and on-site fitters understand their role in maintaining our environmental standards.
- Staff are actively encouraged to engage with green initiatives, ensuring shared responsibility for sustainability across the business.
6. Operational Controls
- We maintain robust internal procedures to manage, track, and reduce our resource consumption, fleet fuel usage, and job-site waste.
- All hazardous and non-hazardous materials are handled, stored, and disposed of strictly through licensed, fully compliant waste carriers.
7. Continuous Improvement
- We are committed to refining our Environmental Management System (EMS) as we work towards formal ISO 14001 certification. This includes periodic internal reviews, process audits, and ongoing team feedback.
Sustainable Operational Practices
- Recycling & Circular Economy: We actively participate in dedicated flooring recycling schemes (such as Recofloor for smooth vinyl offcuts and Carpet Recycling UK) to divert commercial and domestic waste away from landfill.
- Responsible Sourcing: We prioritize timber and subfloor products sourced from FSC- and PEFC-certified managed forests, alongside low-VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) adhesives and smoothing compounds to protect indoor air quality.
- Energy & Fleet Efficiency: We optimize route planning and vehicle usage for site visits and deliveries to keep fuel consumption and transport emissions as low as possible.
- Hazardous Material Safety: We enforce strict protocols for the safe removal, containment, and disposal of legacy flooring materials, adhesives, and chemicals.
